■Mi 10 Pro

Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi Corp held a new product launch event on February 13. Two new Xiaomi mobile phones, Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are introduced to the public. Both phones feature the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 chipset, LPDDR5 RAM, WiFi 6, UFS 3.0 storage and 108MP cameras. The customized 90Hz AMOLED curved screen and 4,500 mAh battery bar are supported by a more efficient 50W super-fast instant charging, taking only 45 minutes to get the phones fully charged.

■ Huawei launches new folding screen phone Mate Xs

On February 24, Huawei held a new product launch event themed on “5G Full-scenario” and introduced to the public its newly developed folding screen mobile phone Mate Xs. It adopts foldable Fullview screen. When the screen is folded, the main screen is 6.6 inches and the secondary screen is 6.38 inches. When unfolded, the screen is 8 inches. Huawei Mate Xs adopts the CPU of HUAWEI Kirin 990 5G, supports both SA and NSA 5G networks and many other frequency bands around the world. Its battery is 4500 mAh and supports HUAWEI SuperCharge (Max 55 W).

Additionally, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business, announced that Huawei P40 will be launched in Paris on March 26.

■realme X50 Pro overseas launch

On February 24, realme launched the realme X50 Pro online in Spain. The phone features Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 Mobile Platform, Wi-Fi 6, LPDDR 5 and UFS3.0. It supports both SA and NSA networks with coverage of the world's mainstream 5G bands. Its main screen is Samsung Super AMOLED 90Hz 1080P, which supports HDR10+. The main camera of realme X50 Pro is 64MP wide-angle, and the other three cameras are 8MP ultra wide-angle, 12MP telephoto lens and black & white portrait lens up to 20x zoom.

■iQOO launches the second 5G mobile phone iQOO 3, claims to be among the top 7 in Chinese market

On February 25, VIVO’s sub-brand iQOO launched a new 5G mobile phone iQOO 3. Feng Yufei, CEO of iQOO, said that the brand was established less than one year ago, but successfully made into the top 7 in Chinese market. As the second 5G mobile phone after iQOO Pro 5G, the new iQOO 3 is the first 5G mobile phone supporting both SA and NSA networks with coverage of the world's mainstream 5G bands (n1/n3/n41/n77/n78/n79) launched by iQOO. ■Sony launches 3 new Xpiria phones

On February 25, Sony launched three new Xperia mobile phones, which are flagship phone Xperia 1 II, mid-range phone Xperia 10 II and Xperia 10 Pro for professional users.

Xperia 1 II attracts the widest attention, which features Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 Mobile Platform and supports Sub-6 5G network and WiFi 6. Display and camera are the two major highlights of the new phone. Xperia 1 II is equipped with a 6.5" 21:9 CinemaWide™ display with 4K HDR OLED resolution and motion blur reduction. It is said that such display can offer a smoother visual experience like 90Hz display with high refresh rate. Like RX100 and α9, Xperia 1 II is up to 20fps AF/AE and features Real-time Eye AF. The three phones will be launched at the end of spring in 2020.

■Samsung

Samsung released its new wireless earbuds, Galaxy Buds+ in China on February 27. They are already available for reservations. Galaxy Buds+ features a 2-way dynamic speaker system delivering sound with rich treble and bass and an adaptive 3-mic system, both for a premium listening experience and clear voice during calls. Besides longer battery life, Samsung also optimized the new product’s charging function. Users can enjoy up to 11 hours [1] of uninterrupted listening time on a single charge that extends to 22 total hours when the Galaxy Buds+ charging case is fully charged.

■OPPO FindX2

FindX2, the latest product of the OPPO Find series, will be launched on March 6. It is said that OPPO Find X2 features Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 Mobile Platform and LPDDR5. Its display is a 6.7-inch curved screen featuring 3K-level resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

OPPO Find X2 also supports 65W super-fast instant charging and 30W wireless fast charging, which makes it the phone with the shortest charging time on the market. Comparing with other brands’ high-voltage charging resolutions, OPPO has been sticking to highly efficient and safe heavy-current charging technology. OPPO FindX2 has three cameras, two of which are customized Sony CIS. The main camera is 48MP with a surface no smaller than 1/1.3 inches. It is said that the new Apple iPad Pro may be released in the spring of 2020. A new accessory, touch cover, may also be available then. The Information claimed that Foxconn is preparing to deliver volume production of the new iPad’s keyboard, which is equipped with a touchpad. It is anticipated that the same material will be used for the keyboard as the current smart keyboard case for iPad Pro, and its layout may be same as that of MacBook Air with the touchpad located on the lower part of the keyboard.

Breaking news about Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max

iPhone 12 series will be released in this September. Apple is planning to enhance the pixel of the main rear cameras, while support night mode will be available on all the rear cameras. Apple will keep three rear cameras on iPhone 12 Pro Max with an additional ToF sensor, and apply night mode support on all the rear cameras. Huawei may launch its new nova7 series in April, including nova7 5G, nova7 SE, 5G Gold nova7 Pro 5G. Samsung launched its latest TV line for 2020

On March 6, 2020, Samsung officially unveiled its 2020 TV production line, of which 8K QLED smart TVs include Q950TS (65/75/85-inch), Q900TS (65/75/85-inch) and Q800T, and 4K QLED smart TVs consists of Q90T/Q80T/Q70T/Q60T (Q90T measures 55-inch, 65-inch worth USD2,000 or RMB13,900, 75-inch and 85-inch versions). Mi TV5 Pro (75-inch) starts selling on March 13

Xiaomi officially announced the sales of Mi TV5 Pro (75-inch) will kickstart on March 13. The new 75-inch Mi TV5 is still powered with quantum dot technology, supports 108%NTSC WCG and 4K and HDR 10+, and achieves a high screen-to-body ratio to 97% and 10.9mm thickness of metal case. It has built-in functions like MEMC, remote speech and AI Speaker - Xiao Ai, and carries 12nm chip and provides 4GB+64GB memory.

TCL’s “Zigzag” tripfold concept phone

The phone unveiled by TCL is only a concept phone without specific plan of release. The first foldable phone is zigzag-shaped inwards and outwards, just like a 6.65-inch phone at a ratio of 20.8:9 with three screens folded and a 10-inch screen when unfolded. The thickness of the phone is increased to as much as that of 2.5 S20 Ultra phones due to tripfold. It can simultaneously run three or two applications, with two on the left for photos and one on the right for lightness and contrast adjustment. Like Galaxy Z Flip, it can stand on a desk with a screen supported and be typed with another screen lying on the desk. For another foldable phone, its screen can stretch from left and roll back inwards. The screen measures 7.8 inches after full stretch and 6.75 inches under normal condition.

OPPO’s first smart watch

OPPO recently released its first smart OPPO Watch online. The watch, with a rectangular design, has a 1.91-inch hyperboloid flexible screen. Replacing silica gel, the watch band is made of fluororubber or feathers in different colors for various types. In addition to 28 types of dial, the watch is also endowed with “AI Smart Clothing Dial Plate” and an important function - motion monitoring. It is also armed with a four-pass optical heart rate sensor and special algorithm developed by OPPO. Technics, a high-end brand of Panasonic, launched its first 100% wireless earphone EAH-AZ70W, which features a higher stability and quality with a new way of wireless connection. It will be available for sale after June 2020. Technics plans to launch EAH-AZ70W in Japan in April. With two types of denoise technologies - feedforward and feedbackward, it is designed with a high standard of water resistance - IPX4 and provided with special downloading app - “Technics Audio” to help users set denoise & background noise modes, check remaining battery and map, and find the location of earphone. n  Logitech launches 3-in-1 wireless charger: simultaneous charging available for three different Apple products

According to a March 12 report from foreign tech media 9to5mac, Logitech has launched a new three-in-one wireless charger, which can charge iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch at the same time. It supports a maximum of 7.5W wireless charging and includes an internal thermal sensor providing automatic temperature control.

 

n  Apple: fifth beta version of watchOS 6.2 released

On March 12th, Apple seeded the fifth beta of an upcoming watchOS 6.2 update to developers. Once the proper configuration has been installed, the new watchOS beta can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone. To install the update, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it must be put on charge, and it has to be in range of the iPhone. WatchOS 6.2 introduces Apple Watch App Store support for in-app purchases, which will allow developers to create and sell Apple Watch apps that offer in-app purchase options and subscriptions. Code in iOS 13.4, the companion update to watchOS 6.2, suggests that both the iPhone and the Apple Watch will in the future have a CarKey feature that will let them be used in lieu of a car key to unlock, start and lock NFC-capable vehicles.

 

n  Apple’s newest ad for AirPods Pro’s Active Noise Cancellation

According to reports from March 12, Apple has released a new AirPods Pro advert to its official Youtube channel, focusing mainly on the Active Noise Cancellation function and Transparency mode. AirPods Pro are truly wireless earphones, first released by Apple in October 2019. The AirPods Pro comes with several improvements compared with the two previous generations of AirPods, including Active Noise Cancellation, water and sweat proofing and a brand new in-ear design.

Before this, according to foreign media outlet MacRumors.com, DigiTimes revealed in its paid content that Apple would launch a new wireless earphone, which DigiTimes called the “AirPods Pro Lite”. This name is kind of strange, suggesting DigiTimes believed the new product would be a low-level configuration of the AirPods Pro. MacRumors.com thought it would be just a third generation AirPods. DigiTimes did not reveal any more details about the new AirPods, but they speculated that the new Apple AirPods might be put into production at the end of the second season of this year because of the COVID-19 epidemic.

 

n  Meizu 17 expected to be available in April

On March 13, which also happened to be Meizu’s 17th anniversary, the company released some information about its new generation flagship smartphone, the Meizu 17, and stated that it might be available as early as April. The Meizu 17 will abandon the narrow bezels that had commonly featured on previous Meizu devices, and adopt the currently popular punch hole design, with the front camera in the upper right corner. On its back, the traditional ring flash is replaced by a triple camera on the rear. In terms of configuration, the Meizu 17 will adopt the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and external X55 baseband to achieve dual-mode 5G networking. It will also support Wi-Fi 6 with LPDDR5 and UFS3.0. Its screen will be Samsung’s curved display with punch hole and may support 90Hz refresh rate. It will also adopt new generation under-screen fingerprint recognition.

 

n  New Huawei P40 series to be launched on March 26

According to Huawei’s official release, the new Huawei P40 lineup will be launched online on March 26. The new P40 Pro comes with a rectangular camera module at the rear, which will house five lenses; a 52 MP wide angle main camera, a 40MP ultra-wide angle camera, an 8MP telephoto lens, a PRISM periscope camera setup with up to 10X optical zoom, and a ToF lens. The main camera will feature a Sony custom 52MP IMX700 (1/1.33-inch) CMOS sensor using RYYB color array, which may be one of the largest camera sensors on a currently available smartphone. Huawei’s P40 lineup includes both the P40 and the P40 Pro, both of which will feature a notchless screen with hole-punch selfie camera. The Huawei P40 will adopt a flat screen, while the P40 Pro will be curved on all sides. Both phones will be equipped with Kirin 990 chip, external Baron 5000 baseband, and will support SA and NSA networks for dual-mode 5G communication. In addition, the Huawei P40 lineup may also be equipped with 5,000mAh battery and a charging combination of 40W fast cable charging and 27W fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

 

n  New Apple patent: achieving a ‘foldable’ display with no need for hinges

On March 11, Apple obtained a patent called System with Multiple Electronic Devices from United States Patent and Trademark Office. It describes a process of placing two iPhones next to each other can activate a tiled display feature without using any hinge. The new patent suggests Apple may be able to adopt a new method to design a folding iPhone. Apple described how to make equipment involving sensors, and also described how that the electronic devices may ‘use sensor measurements and other information’ to detect when an edge of a first electronic device is adjacent to an edge of a second electronic device. In joint operating mode, images may extend across two devices, the devices’ speakers may be used to play different channels of an audio track, cameras and other sensors may be used in cooperation with each other, and other resources may be shared.

Magnetic components may also hold devices together in a variety of orientations. The “hinge” zone is the bezel used to realize user interface gestures. Besides this, the patent also explores various possible shapes when two screens are combined together.

 

n  New Nokia phone featuring 660 chip to be launched

Nokia will hold a new product launch in London on March 19 to reveal its new 5G flagship phone and the Nokia 5.3. The Nokia 5.3 will feature a 6.5-inch 18.5:9 ratio water droplet full-screen. The most remarkable feature of the Nokia 5.3 is the quad camera on the rear, comprising one 16MP, one 5MP and two 8MP modules housed in a circular hump. The smartphone is equipped with 6 GB and 64 GB internal storage, a powerful battery of a non-removable Li-Po 4,000mAh, and a fingerprint recognition module on the back.

At the launch of Samsung S20 lineup’s Chinese version, Samsung released its new Bluetooth wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds+. The Jennie Red special edition and pink edition of the Galaxy Buds+ are currently only available in South Korea. The Galaxy Buds+ are Samsung’s first-ever wireless earbuds with 2-way speaker. It is equipped with one inner mic and two outer mics.
