The 16th edition of NEPCON South China was held at Shenzhen Exhibition Center from August 31 to September 2, 2010. More than 500 leading companies from 22 countries and regions attended the show, which covered an exhibition area of over 30,000 sqm, up 18% from 2009. The three-day event attracted 24,241 visitors, 17% more than last year. With a large number of new products on display, LED and solar PV applications were among the most popular attractions.

As one of the largest, oldest and most comprehensive trade platforms in South China, NEPCON South China integrates extensive resources from each sector. Many leading international vendors, including Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, Samsung, Omron, American Tec, Assembléon, Tokyo Juki, WKK, Zestron, Kyzen, Indium Corporation, Henkel and Senju, unveiled new and upgraded products on-site. LED and solar PV applications were very popular at the show. Sony, Samsung, Juki and Smartech were among the manufacturers who introduced SMT technologies and electronics manufacturing devices for use in the LED industry. Additionally, Rehm Thermal, Heraeus Materials, Nordson EFD and Henkel displayed their innovations from the solar PV field.

Koyano Katsuonori,General Manager of Factory Automation Division of Sony (China) Limited Shenzhen Branch said, “NEPCON South China 2010 was one of the most successful events in several years. I reaffirmed that China is a still powerful market and hope this energy will last. Really impressed with the number of visitors at the booth. We found many of new business partners. We are aiming to expand our business and to receive more new business opportunity next year at NEPCON South China as well.”

Huang Jianwei, Project Manager at Fuji Machine Manufacturing, another exhibitor, said, “In addition to the traditional industries, we saw plenty of buyers from the LED sector at NEPCON South China 2010. And the number of visitors from Japanese-owned companies was also significantly higher than last year. Through its professionalism in visitor organization, NEPCON has again proven itself to be the best display platform in the global SMT industry.”

This year’s show drew the participation of over 70 top companies from the electronics manufacturing industry. They included IBM, TCL, BYD, Nokia, Huawei, Samsung, FIH, NC, Hasee Computer and other well-known vendors. Shao Jiawen, Deputy Production Manager and key buyer for Longer Electronics, stated, “Our current SMT devices and wave welding equipment are somewhat old and based on dated standards. This being so, we are here mainly to find out about new products. We also hope to see many upgraded products at future editions of NEPCON South China.”

Qian Zhixiong, Quality Manager at Honeywell Security (China) said after his visit, “For us, NEPCON South China 2010 was about learning, communication and interaction. We not only discovered a lot of new models and upgraded products, we also managed to evaluate many inspection devices, consumables and other peripheral products we are planning to buy. We got a lot out of this show.”

In addition to the products on display, plenty of exciting on-site activities ensured that the diverse requirements of the exhibition participants were wholly met. On the opening day, the Solar Cell and Equipment Manufacturing Technology Summit 2010 was well attended by more than 200 key industry figures. Over 10 experts from the solar PV sector delivered keynote speeches at the event.

Zhang Ronghui, Vice Secretary of Shenzhen Solar Energy Society said, “This year, the Solar Cell and Equipment Manufacturing Technology Summit 2010, co-hosted by the Shenzhen Solar Energy Society and Reed Exhibitions, was a resounding success. Solar PV is a rapidly growing sector in the electronic information industry, and there were many exhibitors at NEPCON South China 2010 who were expanding into the PV sector. We believe there is room for even greater cooperation between ourselves and Reed in the near future. It is my hope that we can sustain our mutually beneficial collaboration and create even more market opportunities together.”

The SMTA China South Conference, where the latest scientific achievements in the SMT industry were represented, examined two topics: Excellent process and materials control and Realizing green assembly production. Experts from all around the world were on hand to outline their related papers on these issues. The China High-End Seminar on the Application of Automotive Electronics Technology, which looked at topical issues in the auto electronics industry and technologies in South China, provided an overview of the latest one-stop solutions for visitors.

Peng Jie, Vice Secretary of Shenzhen Lighting Association said,” This was my first time at a NEPCON South China event, and I'm delighted that I came. The SMT industry showcased several mature applications in LED chip manufacturing, packaging and other fields. During the event, I saw a number of well known placemen machines that are used in the manufacture of products like display panels, backlit modules, large screens, road lights and LED lighting. Next year, we will work again with Reed Exhibitions to bring even more buyers from the LED field to the show.”

On-site, there were plenty of varied opportunities for communication. The organizers laid on an afternoon tea for Diamond Club members whose focus was on any one of either PC manufacturing and solar energy PV; mobile phone manufacturing and automotive electronics or consumer electronics manufacturing and LED. The tea was an ideal opportunity for high profile members of the industry to discuss optimization solutions involved in the electronics manufacturing industry. The NEPCON Fans Club and its “points for prizes” activities engaged a high number of loyal NEPCON visitors. The Engineers’ Salon and SMT Home Member Gathering, organized by SMT Home, provided an excellent platform for communication. Additionally, the nomination process for the best Electronics Manufacturing & SMT Industry Engineers in China began. The recruiting activities for the SMT Engineer Awards was in full swing as they attracted about nearly 300 applicants in three days.

Because of pressure to lower production and labor costs, the move towards automation has become a trend of increasing importance. ATE China 2010, which ran alongside NEPCON South China 2010, featured many new automated products and technologies, giving visitors an even wider range of choice.

Josephine Lee, Vice President of Reed Exhibitions East China stated, “We are gratified by the widespread praise that this year’s NEPCON South China has received from both exhibitors and visitors. We aim to make sure NEPCON, as the integrated marketing partner for China's electronics industry, continues to create value for our customers and for the entire industry.”
