Artificial Intelligence or Robotic Process Automation: What’s Right for Your Organization?

Richard Milam, CEO, EnableSoft, tells you how to figure out if RPA fits your needs and how to ensure a successful RPA deployment if it does

We can very well see how artificial intelligence is already changing the world. However, it is not a very viable option for small and mid-sized businesses. AI is quite expensive, difficult to implement, and requires a massive amount of data to “learn” from. Put another way, pure AI is beyond the skillset and budgets of most organizations. Interestingly though, 80-90% of what people refer to as AI is really just intelligent automation. Most flexible and robust intelligent automation tools fall under the Robotic Process Automation category .

RPA is a software that applies physical robotic automation (think of the modern automobile manufacturing plant videos you’ve seen) concepts to digital tasks. And as long as you choose wisely, RPA software is both, affordable and easy to implement.

Is RPA Right for Your Business?

So, how can you understand whether RPA software is right for your organization? I usually suggest executives to gather their operational and IT stakeholders for a brainstorming session. Together, think about the organization, its workflows, and processes. The idea is to identify any low-hanging fruit that’s ripe for automation and ask the following three questions about each process:

Does it involve fingers on keyboards?

Is it a rules-based process?

Does the process involve structured data?
