China PCB show: Japan will threaten Samsung EUV project if it expands the restricted list

15 Jul 2019

According to the "Yonhap News" news, Mask Blank, which is dominated by Japan's market, may become the next victim. The outside world is worried that the Samsung China PCB show EUV project (extreme ultraviolet light) may be affected.

According to the Yonhap News, Japan may add restrictions on integrated circuits (ICs), power management ICs (PMICs), lithography China PCB show equipment, ion implanters, wafers, reticle substrates, and so on. If Japan increases export China PCB show restrictions, new projects will have to obtain individual licenses, which will take about 90 days of review time.

It is worth noting that there is no substitute for photoresists used in EUV processes, and Japanese companies have a very high market share in the China PCB show wafer and reticle substrate market. The mask substrate is a raw material for a photomask in an exposure process, and is extremely important in semiconductor miniaturization engineering. The industry believes that Samsung's main EUV project belongs to the next-generation technology of micro-engineering. The reticle China PCB show substrate produced in Korea is still unable to replace the Japanese-made products.

NH Yinyu researcher Du Xianyu analyzed that the reticle substrate for EUV engineering is currently produced exclusively by HOYA. Although the Korean company S-Tech also produces a reticle base, the technical China PCB show strength is still insufficient. Du Xianyu pointed out that at present, only the photoresist is restricted to the raw materials in the EUV project, but the EUV project has not yet entered the mass production stage. This also means that even if the raw China PCB show materials are interrupted, the short-term will only affect the demonstration production line. The problem is that Hwaseong's EUV production line will enter mass production in January next year.

According to industry sources, one of Samsung Electronics' core industries is system semiconductors, and China PCB show EUV is the technology that leads the industry. If Japan-South Korea relations continue to deteriorate, the future of Korean semiconductors is worrisome. In addition, competing companies such as TSMC and Intel are also actively developing EUV projects. The outside China PCB show world is worried that if the situation worsens, Samsung Electronics will probably give up the position of the industry leader.
