LG Display Guangzhou plant will start production next month

15 Jul 2019

On July 12, according to AnandTech's report, LG Display said this week that its factory in Guangzhou, China will be fully operational next month. The electronic equipment China plant, which costs about $4.2 billion, will produce large OLED panels for ultra-high-definition TVs. The new plant will double the production of LG OLED substrates.

LGD's new 8.5G (2200×2500) OLED plant in Guangzhou will produce 60,000 large electronic equipment China TV substrates per month, almost twice the current production of LG OLED substrates.

It is reported that LG established a factory in China in mid-2017. LG Display spent a year getting the necessary permits from the Chinese and South Korean governments, and then spent another year building the factory. LG started trial production this month and started mass production next month.

LG Display has invested about $4.2 billion in its factory in Guangzhou and hopes that these expenses will pay off. First, China’s wages are lower than in South Korea. Second, the Chinese government's subsidies will reduce LG costs by 65%. Third, the new plant allows LG to offset the impact of OLED products due to ongoing diplomatic conflicts between Japan and South Korea. Fourth, this will make LG Display more competitive in the Chinese market than companies such as BOE.
